   Sanford signs law swapping homeowners’ school property taxes for a penny sales tax

   Starting with 2007 tax bills, owner-occupied homes stop paying property taxes for school operations. Businesses and other property keep paying, and an extra one-cent sales tax starting June 1, 2007, will reimburse school districts.

2. Defense

   Force Protection will build half of an Iraqi army vehicle order in Ladson for BAE Systems

   The Army ordered 378 armored vehicles for Iraq’s army from BAE, using a design based on Force Protection’s Cougar. The Ladson company expects about $55 million as BAE’s main subcontractor.
