   Mount Pleasant stops taking new apartment applications for 180 days

   A split Town Council voted 4-3 for the pause, saying roads, schools and town services need to catch up. Opponents warned it would cut off the housing that many workers and seniors can afford.

   United Community Banks agrees to buy Mount Pleasant’s Tidelands Bank

   Tidelands’ common shareholders would get 52 cents a share. The U.S. Treasury would accept $9 million for its TARP preferred stock and unpaid dividends, which United calls a 56% discount.
