BermudAir’s inaugural flight from Bermuda landed at Charleston International Airport on Saturday, starting the first nonstop service between the Lowcountry and the island.

The flight arrived on a 70-seat Embraer E175 after a trip of about two hours, according to the airport. BermudAir will fly the route once a week, on Saturdays, between Charleston and L.F. Wade International Airport.

The airport calls the Bermuda service its second international route.

When the route was announced in November, the airport said the weekly flight would leave Charleston at 5:45 p.m. and reach Bermuda at 8:55 p.m. local time, with the return leaving Bermuda at 3:15 p.m. local time and landing in Charleston at 4:45 p.m.

“This new route enhances our international connectivity and strengthens economic and cultural ties between the Lowcountry and the island,” said Elliott Summey, executive director and CEO of Charleston International Airport.

Adam Scott, BermudAir’s founder and CEO, compared the two places.

“Charleston’s mix of Southern elegance and warm hospitality mirrors our island’s spirit, and we look forward to welcoming travellers from both places,” Scott said in the airport’s announcement.

Helen Hill, chair of the aviation authority and president and CEO of Explore Charleston, said the route reflects how airlines weigh new markets.

“We know how selective airlines are when choosing where to place their resources and are proud to join BermudAir’s network and build on this partnership in the future,” Hill said.

BermudAir, which calls itself Bermuda’s airline, flies Embraer E175 and E190 jets. Its U.S. routes include Westchester County, N.Y., Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Raleigh-Durham and Baltimore/Washington, and it also flies to Toronto and Halifax in Canada, according to the company.
