Two of the region’s workforce and business organizations have new executives.
Trident Technical College named Marshall Connor vice president of economic development, SC Biz reported Sept. 22, citing a college announcement. Connor will work with college leadership to set up a new economic development division that brings together the college’s workforce, industry partnership, continuing education, government relations and community engagement work, according to SC Biz.
Connor joined the college in 2008. He was most recently assistant vice president of economic development and dean of the Dorchester Thompson Campus, and earlier served as assistant director of admissions, assistant dean of the Berkeley campus, assistant vice president of continuing education and assistant vice president of education services, SC Biz reported.
He serves on the Charleston Regional Development Alliance board and has chaired the Greater Summerville/Dorchester Chamber of Commerce, according to SC Biz. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Francis Marion University.
Connor said he was “honored to serve in this new role and continue supporting the mission of Trident Technical College,” SC Biz reported.
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, meanwhile, named Jack Spitzer its chief operating officer, the chamber announced Aug. 25. Spitzer will “work across the organization to connect teams and priorities” and strengthen the chamber’s internal operations, the announcement said.
Spitzer has more than 30 years of experience in finance, operations, technology and organizational transformation, the chamber said. He was most recently interim chief financial and operating officer at Spartina 449, a Beaufort County-based retail brand, and spent 15 years at Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide in finance, treasury, technology and Six Sigma roles, SC Biz reported. He has also been chief financial officer of CEA CAPA Education Abroad and Plexus Worldwide, according to SC Biz.
He moved to the Charleston area in 2025, the chamber said.
“Jack has spent his career helping organizations connect their ambitions with the operations needed to achieve them,” chamber President and CEO Kevin Sheilley said in the announcement.
