   Federal regulators ask wind developers whether they want to build off Charleston

   The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s first step toward offshore wind leasing in South Carolina names four areas, including one about 23 nautical miles off Charleston and another off Cape Romain. Nominations are due Jan. 25.

   Alaska Airlines opens Charleston’s first nonstop route to the West Coast

   Flights between Charleston International and Seattle start Monday, four days a week on Boeing 737s, giving the airport its first coast-to-coast service.

   Booz Allen buys the software services unit of Charleston’s SPARC

   The consulting firm is taking on about 270 SPARC staff members, who build software for the Department of Veterans Affairs and other clients. They will keep working from SPARC’s Charleston facility.
