Hawkes Learning Systems, a publisher of mathematics software and textbooks, is celebrating its move to Mount Pleasant today.
James Hawkes, the company’s CEO, scheduled a ribbon cutting for 8:30 a.m. at its new headquarters at 546 Long Point Road, according to a company announcement published by the Moultrie News. The company said it would begin calling Mount Pleasant home in May.
“We are excited to be moving to the beautiful town of Mount Pleasant,” Hawkes said in the announcement. “The new building will be our headquarters and offers plenty of room for us to grow and provide support to our customers nationwide.”
The company provides educational courseware to more than 500 colleges and universities across the country, the announcement said. It has more than 70 full-time and part-time employees.
Hawkes founded the company more than 30 years ago, according to the announcement.
The company describes its main product as a new kind of math teaching software. It says it pioneered the first sophisticated courseware product to combine “a high level of artificial intelligence with a mastery based pedagogical approach,” and that the product “defined a new class of software for teaching mathematics.”
The announcement did not say what the company is paying for the building or how many of its employees will work there. It also did not say where the company was based before the move.
