HelpSystems has acquired PhishLabs, a Charleston company that tracks phishing and other online attacks aimed at businesses’ brands, employees and digital assets, the software company announced today.

HelpSystems, which announced the deal from Minneapolis, did not disclose the price. It said PhishLabs’ team and products will join its cybersecurity business, where they pair with its email security, vulnerability management and data protection software.

PhishLabs describes itself as a cyber threat intelligence company. It gathers intelligence from across the internet to find and mitigate digital risks, including brand abuse, account takeover and data leakage threats, according to the announcement. The company was founded in 2008. Its website lists its headquarters at 1501 King St. in Charleston and a second office in Mississauga, Ontario.

“Digital transformation has made it critical for security teams to have visibility across the digital landscape and to quickly respond to both internal and external threats,” HelpSystems CEO Kate Bolseth said in the announcement. “We are thrilled to welcome the PhishLabs team and their expertise into the HelpSystems family.”

PhishLabs CEO Tony Prince said the company has improved its platform over a decade “in collaboration with many of the world’s most targeted brands.”

“Our combined resources and expertise put us in a strong position to partner more strategically with our clients and help their security teams thrive as the threat landscape evolves,” Prince said.

HelpSystems sells cybersecurity and automation software. It pitched the PhishLabs service as a way to lighten the load on security teams. “Most security teams are stretched thin,” the announcement said, and PhishLabs “minimizes the noise and takes action to stop threats.”

Neither company said how many PhishLabs employees work in Charleston or whether that will change.
