A historic brick building in Charleston’s Wagener Terrace neighborhood is being turned into nine for-sale homes.

Flyway Development has started selling residences at Tharin House, 19 St. Margaret St., SCBIZ reported Oct. 20. The project’s website describes the property as the original Florence Crittenton building and says a complete restoration will preserve the historic structure.

The brick building opened in 1932 as the Florence Crittenton Home, which housed and cared for young pregnant women, according to the National Park Service and the nonprofit that ran it. That organization was founded in Charleston in 1897 by Claudia Tharin as the Christlove Mission of the King’s Daughters, according to the nonprofit and The Post and Courier. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. Flyway bought it in 2025 for $1.75 million, The Post and Courier reported.

The nine brick residences range from 1,274 to 1,604 square feet, with one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans, SCBIZ reported. The project website says each home is two stories with a private entrance and dedicated off-street parking.

The project website lists two two-bedroom residences at $1,179,000 each, with 1,295 and 1,309 square feet, and says a third, offered at $1,415,000, went under contract before its official release. The website says completion is anticipated in spring 2027. Early buyers may get priority selection and the option to personalize some finishes, subject to construction timing, according to the website.

Flyway CEO Lindsay Nevin said Tharin House “represents an opportunity to preserve a meaningful piece of Charleston’s history,” SCBIZ reported.

Hampton Park and The Citadel are within walking distance of the building, according to SCBIZ.
